We were thrilled to announce our relaunch back in August 2022 and even prouder today, 6 months later, that we are back with thousands of new users on board. Despite the challenges posed by a two-year hiatus, we’ve been able to bring back our business thanks to our new partner Coachhire in Australia. In just a few short months, we’ve seen a significant increase in the number of families using our services, resulting in miles of driving saved, cars taken off the road, and a reduction in CO2 emissions.
I have to be honest: The journey to our relaunch was not without its difficulties. The toughest part was in 2020 when we were forced to let go of the majority of our team and navigate the financial hardships that come with (partially) closing down. But thanks also to our shareholders and investors, we continue to believe in our mission to make carpooling easier for families and to reduce our carbon footprint. We knew that once people were moving again, they needed help especially when schools have no or only limited buses.
I’m super happy to say that since our relaunch, we’ve welcomed thousands of new families to our platform and made a real difference in their lives. Our numbers are still small compared to where we came from, but they do speak for the need for our services and the potential to grow: Since August 2022 we’ve saved 460,000 miles of driving, taken 72,174 cars off the road, and reduced CO2 emissions by 189 tons. How do we know this?
Our backend calculates each stat by the actual usage. Take for example, miles saved: This stat is calculated by taking the distance of the specific carpool ride in meters (as calculated by Google Maps), converting it to miles, and multiplying that times the number of families participating (minus 1: the driving family). This gives us the number of miles that would have been driven on that route if each family had not carpooled but had taken their own car. For example, a trip of 5 miles with 3 families participating saves 10 miles of driving. Rather than 3 families driving 5 miles each (15 miles) one family drives all the kids 5 miles. We only calculate this for carpools that have already been driven, not for carpools scheduled in the future.
We’re now looking to expand our reach and partner with brands, and organizations that share our mission and to bring GoKid into the hands of tens of thousands of new users.
